Green transition

Ida-Viru County is in the process of transition. We are moving away from carbon-intensive oil shale-based economy and toward sustainable clean tech and green tech industry. Companies establishing their production units to Ida-Viru may qualify for grants from EU’s Just Transition Fund.

Energy

Sustainable energy capacity is growing year-on-year in Ida-Viru as well as in Estonia across segments including waste-to-energy, solar, wind, and biomass. Estonia’s state energy strategy requires renewables to produce most of the electricity and heat by 2030, enabled through public and private sector investment in capacity and connectivity.

A sizeable proportion of Estonia’s energy production is exported to the regional Nord Pool market and world-class expertise in processes and technologies improves efficiency and reduces environmental impact.

Metal & Machinery

Ida-Viru has a full value chain for R&D, prototyping, and production of precision components and complex systems, and is trusted by Fortaco, Hanza Mechanics, Waldchnep, Freen, Stako Diler, GIAB, and many more.

  • dynamic, internationally focused mechanical engineering ecosystem
  • sustainable & high-quality skills base
  • Branches: metals and metal products (57%), transport equipment (21%), machinery, tools & equipment (18%)

Electronics

Electronics manufacture in Estonia and Ida-Viru is dominated by local branches of international corporations managing large scale production for exports. A number of these companies also have their own development teams in Estonia or use local engineering services. Estonian companies offer mainly engineering services and are eager to develop innovative products and technologies.

Good skills, flexibility and a highly efficient business environment make Estonian companies good cooperation partners. Local value chains work well, starting with the development of an idea and the manufacture of prototypes up to the production of serial batches.
